Business Cards – Your First Impression

You are meeting a potential big client, the one that can change the trajectory of your business for years to come. The first thing you will do is hand them your business card, but does your business card accurately represent you and your brand, or was it just the best deal you could get at the time?

We have been doing a lot of networking lately as a company, attending trade shows, networking groups and many other events. When we hand them over our business card we are confident that it will leave an impression with the person. Our cards are heavy, they are clean, black and white and easy to read. The front of the card is covered with a spot-varnish that is out logo. Flat black with gloss black varnish. If you walk into our office, that same look is painted on one of our walls. It’s subtle, but it connects our business card to our office.

According to a recent survey by the Statistic Brain Research Institute, 72% of people judge a business or person based on the quality of their business card.

So, ask yourself. Are your business cards going to leave a good impression on everybody that touches and sees it? Not every person that looks at it will have their socks knocked off, some people immediately throw business cards in the circular file. Let’s say that 1 out of every 20 business cards you give out goes to somebody who is legitimately interested in working with your business, but they are trying to decide between you and a competitor. I’m willing to bet that 9 times out of 10 they are going to choose whoever looks the best on paper. A polished brand and business card shows that you care about the image that your business is shown in. It shows that details matter to you, all the way down to your business card.

In conclusion

Don’t think of your business card as just something that you throw into the Chipotle bowl to win a free burrito. Your business card is one of your cheapest, most impressionable pieces of print advertising that your business can have. When you factor in great deals that often arise at places like VistaPrint, Jakprints, Hotcards, and some of the other wonderful printers that exist.
